A workshop was held in the Lalmonirhat district to promote girls' education in the climate vulnerable areas. POPI and DRRA as members of the Bangladesh Education Champion Network (ECN) jointly organised the workshop. It took place at the Lalmonirhat Zila Parishad Auditorium on 30 July 2023 from 10 am to 1 pm. The workshop provides an opportunity for discussion and brings together key stakeholders of Lalmonirhat and adjacent district devoted to tackling the difficulties of girls' education in the context of a changing environment.
In a rapidly changing world, the impact of climate change on girls' education has become a critical concern, especially in countries like Bangladesh. The workshop provided participants with an opportunity to explore practical approaches to empower girls in addressing climate challenges effectively. Mst. Afroza Khatun, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General); Jannatara Ferdous, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Lalmonirhat Sadar and Mr. Musharraf Tansen, In-Country Representative, Malala Fund Bangladesh was present guests. Mr. Murshed Alam Sarker, Executive Director, POPI presided over the workshop.
Participants from government organizations, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, and development partners actively participate in the workshop. Through the scheduled sessions, participants exchanged useful knowledge and firsthand experiences, as well as proposed feasible solutions to the problems of girls' education in climate-affected areas.
Participants opinioned that urgent attention and collaborative action is needed to address the weaknesses in girls' education due to climate change. They also stressed for building a sustainable future by working together and implementing innovative programs.
