Rights and Governance Programme: Empowering Communities for Justice and Equity
The Rights and Governance programme by POPI is dedicated to advancing the principles of justice, gender equality, and the rights of children and citizens within communities. The programme places a strong emphasis on building the capacity of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and their networks, empowering individuals to actively engage with local government systems and platforms for access to essential information. At its core, this initiative seeks to amplify people's influence in decision-making processes and bolster their control over their fundamental rights, all in pursuit of achieving the collective goals of their communities.
Key Programme Objectives:
- Promoting Gender Justice: One of the primary objectives of this programme is to foster gender justice. It does so by advocating for the rights and empowerment of women and girls within the community. This includes raising awareness about gender-based discrimination and inequalities and providing support to women in various aspects of their lives.
- Child Rights Advocacy: The programme is deeply committed to protecting the rights of children. It actively intervenes in cases of child marriages, working to halt such harmful practices and ensuring that children have the opportunity to grow and thrive in a safe and nurturing environment.
- Legal Support: To uphold the rights of women and children, the programme provides legal support when needed. This support is instrumental in ensuring that individuals receive the protection and justice they deserve.
